Pine Cove Cottage

About Paul Smith

My wife and I have been vacationing in the 1000 Islands for years and decided to purchase an Island home. We both in enjoy projects so we took this one on.

Paul Smith purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Paul Smith chose Pine Cove Cottage

My Wife and I have been looking for a vacation home for 20 years in the Islands. We found this old fishing cottage that had lots of potential with a great location with excellent views in 2008. The cottage has been a huge project but the end result has been well worth the effort.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage has excellent views of the surrounding Islands, sunrise, sunsets & shipping channel. The location provides private setting that is very close to the town of Alexandria Bay, NY. The private cove offers protection from rough water for our large dock and great swimming.

You can enjoy watching the ships pass by from the living room, dining room, master bedroom and two decks. The cottage has spectacular view of the sunrise and sunset over the Islands. The large kitchen includes stainless steel high end appliances with granite counter tops. The property includes plenty of deep water dock which is located in a private cove that provides protection from rough water. The property has easy access to swimming from the dock or walking in from the shore line. 1000 Island Rental featuring Pine Cove Cottage is committed to provide outstanding lodging with modern conveniences of home and breathtaking views.

Guided Fishing & Cottage package : Your day begins at 8:00 AM as you are picked up in a 26 foot Cris Craft. Your Captain has all the bait and tackle you will need for a productive day of fishing. At lunchtime you can either bring along a lunch or you can plan for a shore dinner. You may take your lunch ashore or eat right on the boat.

For the shore dinner, you will be taken to a private island where you can relax, play some horseshoes, swim, or fish off the dock, while your dinner is being prepared. A wood fire is started and then your fish will be cleaned. You will enjoy bacon to start you off, and then fresh tossed salad with creamy Thousand Island dressing, salt potatoes, and the tastiest fried fish you'll ever have. Coffee will be brewed to compliment the French toast with real maple syrup for dessert.

My family and I had the best vacation we have ever had and we have been to many places. The description of the property on the Internet is very accurate. Though the photos are excellent, they do the house no justice, it is gorgeous. Every detail from the construction right down to the appliances are top shelf. The owner of the property could not have been more helpful and thorough in helping with any questions or concerns I had prior to leaving for our trip as well as answering any questions that came up once we arrived. We rented both the Pontoon boat as well as the small boat and like the house, everything was as described. I would recommend this rental to any good friend or member of my family in a second ! We have already reserved our week for the summer of 2013 to go back again. Like my 25 year old daughter said when we got there, "how will we ever leave here" and when we talked about next summer she said "why would we even consider staying any place else" ?

We(5 couples) rented the Smith Family Cottage for one week and had a wonderful time! The place was just as pictured on line. It was very clean and well-maintained! There was plenty of room for all 10 of us. We also rented the pontoon boat for the week and enjoyed visiting Boldt Castle, Alexandria Bay and just anchoring in coves to swim. We also thoroughly enjoyed kayaking and canoeing. We docked at Kring Point State Park on two occasions, once to go to the beach and once to walk. It was very easy to get in and out of there and extremely close by. The views from the cottage were spectacular - especially the sunrises. We would also take the boat out at night to watch the sunset. The owner and his caretaker provided great customer service. There was a little problem with ants on the kitchen counter tops but we were warned about this by the owner and tried out best to keep them at bay by not leaving any food on the counter (ant cups might help). We did not have a drop of rain the whole week we were there and them temps during the day were in the 80s and 90s. Overall, we had a wonderful and relaxing vacation with family and friends. I would highly recommend this property! We would definitely go back in the future.

Beautiful house and great location – we had plenty of space for 2 families staying together and had a terrific week at Pine Cove cottage. The cottage is well appointed and has a big kitchen with everything you need to make wonderful meals. The kids enjoyed swimming right off of the dock and there were plenty of ducks going by for entertainment. The screened in porch was the perfect spot to enjoy the evening breeze. The dry season and fire ban prevented us enjoying the large fire pit, but hoping to try that in the future. Easy access to Kring Point state park and a close boat ride to Alex bay.

First, I need to say that the images and description of this property does not do it justice (as nice as it looks from pictures). It is absolutely beautiful. From gorgeous hardwood floors, to the granite counter tops, this property makes you feel at home.....but on vacation! Best of both worlds. The crystal clear water and the use of Paul's pontoon boat, made for the type of summer vacation we wanted. The views from the front AND side deck are breathtaking, especially at sunrise and sunset!! Its only about a 10 minute boat ride to the Alex Bay docks where there is plenty of shopping and very good places to eat. However, the kitchen at the cottage is FULL featured which allowed us to prepare delicious meals. I cannot praise this property and Paul more. Paul's sincere attention to the quality of our vacation was refreshing. He sent us turn-by-turn directions to the marina, then during our stay he stayed in contact with us. He's very friendly person and made us feel very welcome. We just returned a few days ago and already booked for 2014. Thank you Paul, we plan on this being an annual vacation for years to come.

This was our second year of renting Paul Smith's Pine Cove Cottage and we are all looking forward to third vacation in the Bay. The photo's on the web site are great they do the place no just, just terrific !!

Beautiful home that is well maintained and very clean. Visited with our two adult children, their spouses and three grandchildren. Had plenty of sleeping space. The views are wonderful from the front deck and the screened porch provided a mosquito free place to enjoy the evenings. A new deck below the one pictured is currently being built and will be another nice addition to the outdoor living space. We enjoyed the outdoor shower in the early mornings. The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed to prepare meals in a bright and cheery space. The home was nicely decorated and the owners made us feel at home with the "special touches" throughout the place. Upon arrival, we were met by Heather, who was upbeat and a lot of fun. She set the tone for a fun vacation the moment we met her! Heather, as well as Paul checked in with us during the week to see if there was anything we needed. We rented the pontoon for the week and enjoyed exploring the area and taking it to Alex Bay and Clayton in the evenings for dinner. The boat was also very well maintained and the enclosure was a great place to keep the little ones out of the sun. We used the fish cleaning shed, the gas grill and the fire pit. All were a nice perk. The only surprise was that we were asked to do only one load of laundry to conserve water that goes into the septic system. We managed okay because the capacity of the washing machine was large enough to do a big load. We would recommend this rental property with no reservations. We had a wonderful week in the Thousand Islands!

We had an amazing time again at Pine Cove Cottage. The location, swimming, boating, the cottage, and the views are all top notch. Plenty to do right at the cottage, but also just a quick boat ride to Alex Bay, Boldt Castle and other attractions. We really appreciated the fact that there were plenty of spaces for adults and kids to spent time together and apart, such as the screen porch, the main deck, the dock, the patio and the river itself. We brought our own boat, but it was nice to have the option of renting the boats if needed. Nice to have air conditioning in the bedrooms for hot days since they are all upstairs. We were comfortable and able to sleep well even on the hottest days. We used the canoe and kayaks quite a few times as well. The location has some nice protected water around it that are ideal for paddling, even with kids. We are returning to Pine Cove Cottage again this year and the whole family has been looking forward to it all year!

As this is our third year vacationing at the Smith cottage we are still amazed at the new changes / upgrades we find ever year. We had people along with us for their first visit to the 1000 Islands and they were amazed at the beauty.

Kiel S.

We were beyond impressed with our stay at this cottage from June 8th until June 15th, 2015. Paul was really great to work with, and everything was as good (or better!) then expected. The location is great because it's close to a state park where vehicles can be kept just a 2-minute boat ride away. Also the dick set-up is perfect since it has calm but deep enough water inside the protected cove. Views of the main shipping channel are amazing and can be seen throughout the property, including the wrap around porches which are great and offer open air or enclosed portions, depending on the weather. The inside of the cottage is extremely clean and updated, including lots of beautiful woodwork. Lots of creature comforts! Would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to stay in the Thousand Islands area!!

Our stay at the cottage was the same as always, great ! We have already booked our week for next year which will be our 5th year.

We enjoyed a wonderful week-long family reunion with our adult children. Everyone loved this house! We have stayed in many vacation rental properties over the years, and have never seen one so well equipped and beautifully maintained! Really amazing. Everything in the house and surrounding property is of the highest quality. Fit for royalty.

We spent a week with our family and 2 grandsons at the Smith's beautiful home on the 1000 islands. Everything was perfect and everyone had a great time. Great fishing, tubing, kayaking and just hanging out on the deck or by the fire pit . Thanks Paul for making sure everything went smooth. We'll be back for Sure. Tim Gardner

This place was so perfect that we didn't want to leave. My husband loves to swim, my son loves to fish, and I love to sit on the deck and read. All of our needs were met in this up today very clean home. We grilled most of the nights that we stayed at Pine Cove cottage and found the kitchen to be very well-stocked. The bedrooms were also clean and comfortable and the air-conditioning came in handy because the week we chose to stay here was very hot. The views of Caprice Island just across the way were absolutely stunning and I couldn't stop taking pictures. We will definitely be returning next year as Pinecove cottage could not have been more perfect.

Our stay at the Smith Cottage was incredible. The cottage itself is beautiful & Has everything you could ever need. We went with four other amazing couples & it was so great. The cottage had all the luxuries of home & the view of a lifetime. Traveling around the river on their houseboat was an added bonus. I would reccomend this beautiful cottage to anyone. Can't wait to return.

There isn't enough time to accurately reflect how happy we were with our stay.   First, the communication between us and Paul was amazing; it was so great to have questions answered in a timely manner and work out any details during our stay. I had also forgotten 2 chargers and not only did Paul mail back one, he replaced the other they could not locate. How is that for customer service. The home is beautiful, so beautiful I could stay forever. From the hardwood floors to the classy yet cozy decorating it was amazing. There was everything you could think of that was provided and other than food and clothing, there wasn't much else you needed. The outside was just as amazing with a nice fire pit and plenty of chairs and a small side yard (next time we will bring our corn hole boards) with a horseshoe pit - if you count the back porch, lower deck, sun/screen room and the front deck there are so many areas to relax and enjoy the shade or sun that even with a large group, you aren't on top of one another. The bedrooms are adorable! It is great that there are air conditioners in each bedroom, but I would say, we were there during a hot week and one day was extremely humid - no breeze and the downstairs was unbearably hot - an air conditioner downstairs would be nice for 'emergencies'......but still, no complaints - the rest totally made up for that hot evening! The property was well-maintained and clean. The description is exactly if not more than described! There is no shortage of things to do, from games and movies, satellite to the sirius (we enjoyed this while preparing meals), binoculars to watch for ships, a basket of things to do. No matter what the weather, you cannot be bored at this place. The bay is beautiful and I totally enjoyed the kayaking and canoeing while the guys fished or cooked. Early morning, early evening, always great. We brought our own boat and enjoyed many trips up and down the river sightseeing - what beautiful homes and properties. We went to Boldt Castle (a must see) and rode into Alex Bay and Clayton for shopping and lunch. We also hit the Boat Museum. We didn't see all that we wanted to like the Singer Castle and a few lighthouses, so we hope to return. We would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives and we would love to come back again! Paul and his wife are gracious enough to share their piece of paradise, and they do everything to ensure you have a wonderful stay.

Two families spent one week in Pine Cove Cottage in July. The property was excellent. It is even better than the photos would make you believe. The cottage is very large, has several excellent outdoor sitting and relaxing locations. The dockage is protected and plentiful. We were able to easily dock our boat and three jet skis. The kitchen is modern and very large. There are wall mounted air conditioners in the bedrooms to cool the sleeping areas on the warmer nights. Paul's follow up was excellent. He accompanied us to the property and showed us around and was available via phone with any questions. He promptly returned our security deposit. The views of the channel are great. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the freighters. Sunset views were beautiful. We parked and launched our toys from Goose Bay and this worked out very well. Going to the dump was a bit of a hassle but we understand that the island is carry in and carry out. The only negative would be the lack of drinking water in the home. The water supply is the river/bay and the water is not potable. We did not know this until a couple of weeks before our arrival. Paul left us with a case of bottled water to start us off. We brought additional water as well as a camping-style water filter that made the river water safe. It wasn't a big deal, but was not anticipated when we reserved. We were also asked to do only one load of laundry during our week there. This was a bit of a reach with eight people in the four bedroom home. The few minor negatives did not detract from my giving this five stars. The home was comfortable, very nice and easily accessed. It is a great home base to visit the 1000 Island region. The waters around the home are filled with fish. Our children literally caught fish on 75% of their casts. Very nice and very relaxing week. We highly recommend Pine Cove Cottage.

This island cottage was the perfect place to host our vacation for our blended family of 8. The fishing, swimming and boating were great!! Plenty of room for all to spread out and yet come together for meals prepared in the well equipped kitchen and spacious dining room table. Enough hot water for our whole crew and the outdoor hot and cold running water shower was amazing! Bird watchers spotted osprey, cormorants, loons and wrens and the sightings of the Big Ships were always a real crowd pleaser. Owner Paul and caretaker Melody answered all our questions and needs. If you are looking for an island getaway with plenty of privacy, great views and comfortable accommodations, Pine Cove is for you.

Gene R.

This was probably the nicest rental we have ever had. It lived up to our expectations then some. Gorgeous views of the river yet in a private setting. Property manager (Melody) was very attentive and fun to be around. Owner is obviously very particular and the property shows it. Would return in a heart beat.

Pine Cove Cottage is the perfect 1000 Island getaway. Everything in the house is first class, well equipped and clean. Combine the views of THE RIVER with the excellent weather we experienced, and our stay was perfect in every respect. The owner was professional and easy to deal with. We rented the pontoon boat and the small fishing boat and both made our stay more fun for everybody. We would come back in a nanosecond!
